Folkestone, UK – 02/09/2025. The Folkestone Performing Arts Company, the only producing theatre ensemble based in Folkestone, is proud to announce its new training opportunities for local artists in their Community Theatre & Writing for Performance Groups.
"We are thrilled to start a new term with all of three strands of the theatre company in operation," says FPAC’s Artistic Director, Matthew Hahn. ‘This will be the first time since forming in 2022 that we will be running the full programme of opportunities.”
The Writing for Performance group will meet regularly and gets anyone who has an interest in writing for the stage opportunities to quickly see their work in the hands of our Community Theatre or Ensemble actors. Our goal with the WfP group is to quickly get pieces up on their feet & read.
‘We believe that the ‘the proof of the pudding is in the eating’ - that is, things must be judged by seeing them in action, rather than endlessly re-writing and self-judgement.’ Hahn continues, ‘Writing something specifically for the theatre will always sound different when performed by an actor rather than in your head and can only be complete once performed. You will never know its impact until it is presented to others as a live performance.’
The Community Theatre group will also meet regularly and gets anyone who has an interest in acting, acting. Each term, we plan to have an end of term sharing for the wider community to enjoy the work that has been created.
‘These two FPAC groups are places where you can have a cuppa and a natter with friends whilst enjoying all of the benefits that theatre can offer us,’ says Hahn.
One of FPAC’s core values is accessible training opportunities. Training in drama skills such as voice, character & text analysis, and playwrighting are offered alongside ‘soft’ skills such as verbal and non-verbal communication, empathy, teamwork, fitness, well-being and self-confidence. We also look to combat social isolation through these regular creative social gatherings.
No experience is necessary.
With support from local councillors, these free training sessions have secured funding for another term. FPAC’s training sessions have reached out to over 100 locals who have an interest in making theatre in a supportive environment.
FPAC is an artist-led international theatre ensemble creating vibrant, relevant and compelling theatre through the celebration of local stories. For more information about the company, please visit their website, www.fpac.info.
